Updated October 2026.
Paycheck Advance just showed up inside Credit Karma Checking, and you can get the money fast for a flat $2. Credit Karma first published the feature on November 5, 2025, so this is still new. If Checking is already where your paycheck lands, you may be able to draw cash before payday without downloading another app.
What is Credit Karma?
Credit Karma is a personal-finance app from Intuit. Millions of people use it to see credit scores and card or loan offers. The company is not a bank. Credit Karma Checking and Credit Karma Savings are deposit accounts provided by MVB Bank, Inc., Member FDIC, and you manage them in the same app.
Paycheck Advance is an optional feature of that Checking account, for members who qualify. This review covers the advance. Credit scores, Credit Builder, and the Savings rate are separate products.

What is Credit Karma Paycheck Advance?
Paycheck Advance lets eligible Checking members take cash before payday. Credit Karma describes it as on-demand advances for qualified direct depositors. It is not a loan. There is no interest and no required fee. MVB Bank provides the advance. Money Access Services, Inc., a Credit Karma company, runs the screen you see in the app. It does not fund the advance or approve you.
If you qualify, the app shows a minimum and a maximum. You choose an amount inside that range, then pick instant or standard delivery. The money goes into your Credit Karma Checking account (also called a CKM Spend account). It does not go to an outside bank. Repayment comes out of a later qualifying deposit, or you can pay it back yourself in the app.

| Sits in an app many people already have | No published typical amount, and the product is still new |
How new is Paycheck Advance?
Credit Karma’s help article, What is Paycheck Advance?, lists an original publication date of November 5, 2025, and a last update of September 24, 2026. That is the public start date for the feature. There is no long track record of how limits grow, what a typical member actually receives, or how often offers get paused.
Treat the $500 figure as a ceiling, not a promise for a new Checking customer. Credit Karma says limits are evaluated often and can change, and that Paycheck Advance may not appear even if you meet the deposit rules.
Fees: what a Credit Karma advance costs
Instant delivery is a flat $2, and Credit Karma says it can take up to an hour. The fee does not change with the size of the advance. Credit Karma states that price in the help article under “Are there any fees associated with this feature?” and again in footnote 2. The fee is collected when your paycheck arrives, not at the moment you tap confirm.
Standard delivery is free and usually arrives in 1 to 2 business days. The same help article also describes that path as free within two business days.
Checking itself has no monthly fee, no minimum balance, and no inactivity fee. Paycheck Advance adds no subscription on top of that. Credit Karma does not ask for a tip. There is no interest and no late fee in the published terms summary. If a repayment is missed, new advances can pause until the balance is settled. Credit Karma says it keeps looking for paycheck deposits and that your balance stays above $0.
ODA tip
A flat $2 is low next to apps that charge $5 to $10 to send $100. You only get that price inside Credit Karma Checking, and only after the account has been open for 30 days with a qualifying deposit. If you are not moving direct deposit, the $2 fee is not available to you.
Who qualifies
Paycheck Advance is for Credit Karma Checking members, not for anyone with the credit-score app alone. Credit Karma’s disclosure says you need all of the following:
- An active Checking account open at least 30 days. Savings can receive the qualifying deposit, but the Checking account is what has to be open.
- One qualifying direct deposit of $200 or more into Checking or Savings within the prior 35 days. Payroll, salary, government benefits, and eligible gig or marketplace payouts can count. Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, bank transfers, cash deposits, refunds, and instant transfers do not.
- An eligible state. You have to live there and stay there.
Credit Karma does not publish a typical advance. The help article says minimum and maximum amounts vary, and that you see your own numbers under Cash Access, then Paycheck Advance. The program range is $20 to $500.
States where it is not offered
Paycheck Advance is not available in Colorado, Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, or Wisconsin. It is offered in the other states. Confirm in the app. Credit Karma says the list can change.
How to turn it on
- Open Credit Karma Checking if you do not already have it. You can start from the Credit Karma app or from the Checking page.
- Set up a qualifying direct deposit of at least $200. The account also has to be at least 30 days old before the advance is available.
- If you are in an eligible state and Credit Karma offers you the feature, Paycheck Advance shows up in your banking profile.
- Read the explanation of your limit and delivery costs, then agree to the Paycheck Advance terms. Those terms are separate from the Checking agreement.
- Choose an amount and a speed. Instant is $2. Standard is free. You can cancel a payout only while its status is Pending.
You can turn the feature off later under Account Settings, then Limits and Fees, then Paycheck Advance.
Multiple draws and repayment
You can take more than one advance before payday if you still have room under your limit and your repayment is up to date. A $200 limit does not have to be taken all at once.
Repayment usually happens when a qualifying deposit hits Checking or Savings and there is enough money to collect. You can also choose Repay Now and pay early. If the advance is not fully repaid by the due date, access can pause. Credit Karma keeps watching for paycheck deposits to collect what is left.
Paycheck Advance is not the same as Overdraft Coverage
A qualifying direct deposit of $200 or more also unlocks other Checking tools. They solve different problems:
- Paycheck Advance is money you choose to take before payday, from $20 to $500, repaid from a later deposit. Instant delivery costs $2.
- Overdraft Coverage steps in only when your balance hits zero. It can cover debit card purchases and ATM withdrawals from $20 up to $200, with no fee. You do not request it the way you request an advance.
- Early Payday moves the deposit itself earlier: up to 2 days for a paycheck, and up to 5 days for federal government benefits. That is your own pay, arriving sooner, not an advance.
If you only need a small cushion at the register, Overdraft Coverage may be the feature you actually want. If you want cash in the account before payday, that is Paycheck Advance.
How it compares with other bank advances
The closest products are other advances that live inside a bank account. Chime MyPay also requires that bank’s checking account and a qualifying deposit. Its instant fee is 3% (minimum $2, maximum $5), so $100 costs $3, a dollar more than Credit Karma’s flat $2. Current Paycheck Advance goes up to $1,000, but Current does not publish the instant fee until an advance is offered in the app.
Credit Karma’s edge is a published $2 instant price and no subscription. The limits are the tradeoff: $500 at the top, no published average, a 30-day account wait, and a shorter state list than a nationwide app. Our directory score for this listing is 8.7 out of 10. It is not an Editor’s Pick, because we do not have a referral relationship with Credit Karma.

It is a strong fit if you already use Credit Karma Checking, or you are willing to move a paycheck there and wait out the 30-day requirement. The published $2 instant fee is one of the lowest in this category, and you can draw more than once up to your limit.
It is a weak fit if you need cash today in an outside bank account, if you live in an excluded state, or if you want a published average so you know what new members usually get. Credit Karma does not provide that number. Because the feature only dates to November 2025, there is also less public history on how limits behave after the first few paychecks.
