Chime is one of the few cash advance apps that pairs a $100 new customer bonus with a fee-capped advance line, and MyPay’s instant fee tops out at just $5 no matter how much you borrow. For eligible Chime members, that combination of up-to-$500 access, a hard fee ceiling, and a welcome bonus on the same signup path is difficult to match.

What is Chime?

Chime is a full-service banking app (not a bank itself). Banking services are provided by The Bancorp Bank, N.A. or Stride Bank, N.A., Members FDIC. The MyPay cash advance product is operated by Chime Capital, LLC (NMLS 2316451). Most everyday banking features are free: Checking and Savings with no monthly fee, a debit card, early direct deposit for many payers, and SpotMe fee-free overdraft coverage up to $200 once you qualify.

MyPay is Chime’s optional cash advance product inside that banking app. The rest of this review focuses on MyPay (fees, limits, eligibility, and who it fits), with SpotMe and early deposit called out only where they affect the advance story.

New customers: claim the $100 bonus offer, then check MyPay in the Chime app.

Get $100: Chime’s new customer bonus

Get $100 is the clearest reason to open Chime if you are not a member yet. MyPay only works inside Chime Checking, so the signup bonus and the cash advance product sit on the same path.

Key terms

  • For new Chime customers who start through a qualifying link (including ours).
  • Usually requires opening a Chime Checking Account and finishing the steps in the offer flow.
  • Bonus payout typically needs a qualifying direct deposit (plus any other steps Chime shows).
  • The $100 bonus is separate from MyPay. You can earn the bonus and still need to meet MyPay rules before an advance.

What is Chime MyPay?

MyPay is Chime’s cash advance product for eligible Checking members. If you qualify, you can take advances up to your limit (as high as $500) that repay from your next qualifying direct deposit into Chime Checking.

Optional instant delivery costs 3% of the advance (minimum $2, maximum $5). Wait about one business day and delivery is free. Funds stay in Chime Checking. There is no transfer to an outside bank.

PROSCONS
✓ Advance up to $500✗ Requires a Chime Checking Account
✓ Free delivery in about 24 hours✗ Not available in every state
✓ Low instant fee (capped at $5)✗ No flexible due date extensions
✓ No subscription or tip ask✗ New users often start below $500

Why users pick MyPay

  • Cash when you need it: Eligible members can take advances up to their available limit instead of waiting until payday.
  • Low fees: No subscription and no tip prompt. Instant delivery is 3% (min $2, max $5), so a $100 advance is about $3 for speed.
  • No credit check: Approval is based on Chime account activity and risk rules, not a hard pull.
  • Works for gig and benefits deposits: Qualifying direct deposits can come from employers, payroll providers, gig payers, or government benefits payers (ACH or OCT), per Chime’s MyPay agreements.
  • Optional instant delivery: Free in about a day, or pay the capped instant fee for funds right away in Chime Checking.

ODA tip

You need at least one qualifying direct deposit of $200 or more in the last 36 days, plus an active Checking Account and activated debit card. New members often start around $50 to $100 and can grow with deposit history.

Chime MyPay eligibility requirements

You generally need to:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a Chime Checking Account in good standing
  • Activate your physical Chime Visa Debit Card and/or Chime Card
  • Receive at least one qualifying direct deposit of $200 or more in the last 36 days
  • Live in a state (or D.C.) where MyPay is offered

Where MyPay is not available

MyPay is not offered in these states: CO, CT, IL, ME, MA, MN, MT, NJ, NM, SD, WA, WY. Everywhere else, eligible Chime members may get access (confirm in the Chime app).

Even in supported states, MyPay is invite-based in the app. Limits can change. SpotMe use and steady deposits may help, but Chime decides eligibility.

What to know before you switch banks

If you are not a Chime customer yet, plan for setup time. You need Checking, a card activation, and a qualifying deposit before MyPay can unlock. That can take days or weeks, not minutes.

The upside: Checking has no monthly service fee and no minimum balance to avoid fees, and eligible members can also use SpotMe overdraft coverage up to $200. The $100 new customer bonus softens the switch cost if you meet offer terms.

MyPay does not use a credit check and does not report payment history for building credit. Chime’s secured credit card is a separate product if credit building is your goal.

Final word: is Chime MyPay right for you?

MyPay is strongest if you already bank with Chime (or you are ready to switch for the $100 bonus) and you live in a supported state. Fees stay low, delivery is fast, and the product stays inside Checking with no tip culture.

Skip it for now if you need cash today and you have never used Chime, or if you live in a state on the unavailable list above.
