Updated November 2026.
If you can’t repay a Brigit Instant Cash advance, the terms are unusually clear: Brigit says in writing that it has no legal claim against you for non-payment, will not send the balance to a debt collector, and will not report you to a credit bureau. Brigit’s Terms of Service call repayment “entirely voluntary.”
What does happen: Brigit will suspend your access to future advances until the balance is repaid. That is the main practical consequence. Here is exactly what the terms say and what you can do right now. For the general pattern across apps, see what happens if you don’t pay back a cash advance.
What Brigit’s Terms Actually Say
Brigit’s Terms of Service (last revised March 31, 2026, retrieved November 6, 2026 at hellobrigit.com/terms) contain a section titled “No Recourse In the Event of Non-Payment” (Section 7.6.2). Here is the key language, quoted directly:
“BRIGIT WARRANTS THAT IT HAS NO LEGAL OR CONTRACTUAL CLAIM AGAINST YOU BASED ON A FAILURE TO REPAY AN ADVANCE, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, OR TO PAY US INTEREST, FEES, CHARGES, OR OTHER AMOUNTS IN CONNECTION WITH ANY ADVANCE. REPAYMENT IS ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY.”
“BRIGIT WARRANTS IT WILL NOT ENGAGE IN ANY DEBT COLLECTION ACTIVITIES, PLACE THE AMOUNT OWED WITH OR SELL TO A THIRD PARTY FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEBT COLLECTION ACTIVITIES, OR REPORT YOU TO A CONSUMER REPORTING AGENCY.”
This applies specifically to Brigit’s Instant Cash advances. It does not apply to Brigit’s Credit Builder or Line of Credit products, which are loans issued by Coastal Community Bank and are reported to credit agencies. Brigit’s terms also say they do not waive rights against fraudulent activity, and they will pursue fraud.
How Brigit Tries to Collect Before It Gets to That Point
Even though Brigit warrants no legal recourse, they will try to collect automatically. Here is the process from Section 7.3 and 7.6.1 of their terms:
- ACH or debit card. You authorize Brigit to debit your linked bank account via ACH or via your debit card. If a debit card transaction fails, Brigit will initiate an ACH debit for the same amount instead.
- When they charge. Brigit charges your payment method after the due date shown when you requested the advance, the extended due date if you moved it in-app, or when Brigit detects a positive cash inflow in your linked account, whichever comes later.
- Partial debits. If there are not enough funds for the full amount, Brigit may initiate a debit for less than the full amount. A partial payment counts toward what you owe but does not satisfy it.
- Brigit monitors your balance. The terms say Brigit monitors your bank account balance before withdrawing “to ensure there are sufficient funds.” But Brigit is not responsible for overdraft fees if the debit does cause an overdraft at your bank.
- Reminders, not demands. Brigit says they may send email, text, or SMS messages about the upcoming payment, but these “should not be construed as a demand for payment.”
What You Can Do This Week
- Contact Brigit before the due date. Email support@hellobrigit.com (the terms give this address). Ask for an extension of your due date. Brigit’s terms explicitly describe a “due-date chosen by you when extending your due-date within the app.” The app itself may allow you to push the date without calling anyone.
- Use the in-app extension if it is available. Look inside the Brigit app for an option to extend or change your repayment date. The terms describe this as a built-in feature.
- Do not take a new advance to pay the old one. Brigit’s terms say you cannot request a new advance if you already have one outstanding.
- Cancel a scheduled debit if you need to. Brigit’s terms (Section 7.3) say you can revoke the authorization to debit by emailing support@hellobrigit.com. You must notify them at least three business days before the scheduled debit date and include the name and phone number on your account.
- Understand revoking ACH and what it costs you. You can go further and revoke the ACH authorization entirely through your bank. See how to revoke an ACH authorization for steps. Revoking stops the automatic debit, but it does not erase the debt. Per the terms, you still owe the advance and your access to future Brigit advances will stay suspended until repaid.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will Brigit sue me if I don’t repay my Instant Cash advance?
No, based on Brigit’s Terms of Service (Section 7.6.2, last revised March 31, 2026). Brigit warrants in writing that it has “no legal or contractual claim against you based on a failure to repay an Advance.” The only consequence described in the terms is that Brigit will suspend your access to future advances until the balance is repaid.
Does Brigit report me to credit bureaus?
No, for Instant Cash advances. Brigit’s terms state explicitly that Brigit “WILL NOT… REPORT YOU TO A CONSUMER REPORTING AGENCY” in the event of non-payment of an advance. This does not apply to Brigit’s Credit Builder or Line of Credit products, which are issued by Coastal Community Bank and are reported to credit agencies as loans.
Can I revoke the ACH debit before Brigit pulls it?
Yes. Brigit’s terms say you can cancel any scheduled electronic debit by contacting them at support@hellobrigit.com at least three business days before the scheduled debit date. Include your name and phone number on the account. See how to revoke an ACH authorization if you want to go further and block it at the bank level. Either way, revoking or canceling the debit does not erase the debt. Brigit will suspend your advances until you repay.
What if I close my Brigit account without paying back?
Brigit’s terms do not say they will prevent account closure due to an outstanding advance. However, the advance amount is still owed to Brigit. Brigit says repayment is “entirely voluntary,” so the practical consequence of closing without paying is loss of future access and the lingering unpaid balance. If you close the account, ask Brigit in writing what happens to the outstanding advance amount so you have documentation.
Can I get an extension on my Brigit Instant Cash advance?
Yes. Brigit’s terms explicitly describe a due-date extension option within the app: “the due-date chosen by you when extending your due-date within the app.” Look for an extension option in the Brigit app before the due date. You can also email support@hellobrigit.com to ask. Brigit’s terms say there is no penalty for early repayment, and extensions are built into the system.
